How to send a Facebook video on WhatsApp

Not the link: the actual video, playing right in the chat, even for people who aren’t on Facebook.

Why the link isn’t enough

When you tap Share → WhatsApp inside Facebook, what arrives is a link. Your friend has to tap it, wait for the Facebook app or a login screen, and if the post is in a group or gets deleted later, they see nothing at all. Many people simply skip links in chats.

A video file is different. It shows a preview, plays with one tap inside WhatsApp, works for people without a Facebook account, and stays in the chat even after the post is gone.

Step by step (Android and iPhone)

  1. In Facebook, open the video or reel, tap Share (or the three dots) and choose Copy link.
  2. Open vidpls.com and paste the link. Shortcut: in the address bar, type vidpls.com/ right before the link. On Android, if you installed vidpls, share the post straight to it from Facebook’s Share menu.
  3. Keep “Video · MP4” selected and tap Download. Facebook often sends picture and sound separately; vidpls joins them in your browser so the file has audio.
  4. Tap Share, choose WhatsApp and pick the chat. Or save the video and attach it from WhatsApp as usual.

Trim it before you send

WhatsApp compresses videos, and most of the time only ten seconds matter. Tap Trim in vidpls, set the start and the end, and download just that part: it is smaller, sends faster and your friend sees the good bit first. See the video trimmer.

If the video won’t load

vidpls only works with public videos. Videos inside private groups, restricted to friends or visible only when logged in can’t be fetched, and vidpls tells you so instead of pretending. In that case, ask the person who posted it to send you the file.

Frequently asked questions

Will WhatsApp lower the quality?

A little: WhatsApp re-compresses every video you send as a video. If quality matters, attach it as a Document instead (Attach → Document) and WhatsApp sends the file untouched.

Does my friend need Facebook?

No. The file plays in WhatsApp like any video from your camera roll.

Does vidpls keep a copy of the video?

No. The video goes from Facebook’s servers to your phone through your browser. vidpls doesn’t store videos, links or who you are.

Is this allowed?

Use vidpls with videos you made or have permission to share. Platform rules and copyright still apply. See the terms of use.

Is vidpls free?

Yes. No sign-up, no ads, no limits. If it saves you time you can leave a tip on Ko-fi, but nothing is locked behind it.
